march 12 meeting

Our evening was hosted at Pris' home with cookies fresh out of the oven and butter caramels from Montana. Seven Piece Makers gathered for a cozy evening on a blustery night.

Janet had a good week health-wise so she was able to join us for the third month in a row! Her YF quilt, with purple pinwheels, was quilted with her 12' Gammi! She is working on an arty quilt with gorgeous green sashing that features two organic circle shapes in each block. Who is that for? Janet!

Miriam has completed the lap quilt she made with the giveaway strips. The lucky recipient is an 88-year old who lives at Hearthstone. Plymouth is still getting its full share with Miriam having just delivered two small quilts to June and finishing up her YF quilt—another spectacular blue jean production.

Harriet brought us some inspiration with tear sheets from a stylish magazine. She has been madly making random squares—about 30 of them. Plus Harriet has begun to make two scrappy quilts with more of her stash.

Shannon brought a class sample—a zipped bag made in colors that a young man would like—per a request from a young man. The red and black quilt she showed to us last month closed at $450 in the Ballard High School auction. She is finished with the pink and gray YF quilt that she made, but she's wondering if it's too pink. If so, she'll work on a back-up one with beach balls.

Pris showed us a wonderful confetti quilt that she's made out a donated 9-squares. The finished quilt will be given to a male companion at Plymouth House of Healing. Then she'll move on to this year's YF quilt.

During the meeting Flora was madly sewing on the binding of a YF quilt. She is glad to get to the end of winter as a dark seasonal disorder touched her this year. Flora celebrated her 65th birthday on March 13. She has started a new endeavor—Folio Flora— where she is focusing on Fiber, Crafts and Writing. What a talented gal!

All Patricia could talk about was StashFest. It has consumed her quilting time and energy. At the end of March, it will be a huge fundraiser for the La Conner Quilt and Textile Museum.

february 12 meeting

Shannon treated us to cookies from Larsens and exquisite jasmine flower tea. Eight of us gathered for a great evening of sharing quilts.

Patricia told us about her work on StashFest, a fundraiser for the La Conner Quilt & Textile Museum. She is also planning to finish up her lap-sized quilt, Babbling, in time for a quilt contest.

 

Our hostess Shannon showed us three quilts she’s working on. The top quilt, with machine embroidered alphabet squares, will hang in the Bernina NW store when completed. The black and white quilt will be donated to an auction at Ballard High School to raise money. And the pink and grey quilt, made from a modern quilt book, will be given as a YF quilt, once finished.

Pris brought her completed bird quilt and granddaughter Hailey. The huge quilt is hand-stitched—both the piecing and the quilting! It is incredibly charming.

Miriam has been busy. She produced a House of Healing quilt, two comfort quilts and a comfort afghan. (All of us love the colors in her crocheted afghan—brights on a dull green-grey.)

Janet has been working too hard at home proofreading PATH documents. She needs some time to play with her quilt projects!

Harriet made pillows for her neices in Colorado that match their wonderful quilts.

Shannon’s neighbor LeeAnn joined us for the evening. The author of the Nifty Quilt blog, she likes to make bold, colorful quilts.                                                                                                

jan 12 meeting

This month’s meeting was hosted by Patricia with guests Harriet, Miriam, Janet and Pris. The evening featured a birthday cake from Bouteloua Bakery in Ballard to celebrate Maurine’s 80th birthday. Regretfully Maurine was not able to join us.

Patricia went on and on about StashFest, a fundraiser for the La Conner Quilt Museum. As the coordinator, she is working hard to coordinate many different parts—a bevy of fabric presenters, a Book Sale, a Flea Market and exciting quilting Experiences—all to sell at the two-day event.

Janet was well enough to join us! She has been home-bound for months and tonight she drove to the meeting. We were all thrilled to see her. In the last few months she bought a top-of-the-line Gammill long-arm and she has been quilting up a storm. Her very first quilt will be given to Plymouth House of Healing. She had a baby quilt with a top pieced by Jeanne and delightful butterfly stitching. Janet also had the batik quilt top from Maurine that she is thinking about how to quilt next.

Pris made a set of napkins and a table runner with a rooster theme as a Christmas gift. She is knitting a sweater and still finishing up the fabulous bird quilt for her niece in California—which she is hand-stitching five hours a day! She has two other quilts in the works—her YF quilt and one made with tiny squares adopted from Shannon’s friend.

Miriam brought a big bolt of fabric with red swirls on white—15 yards total—that she is prepared to share. She brought a fun baby quilt with cutesy jungle fabric. The big splash of the night were two blue jean quilts she produced for Patricia and Shannon—absolutely fab and fun!

Harriet gets the title of professional carpetbagger with her huge bag stuffed with quilts. She made two jazzy scrap quilts—one for a neice, the other for a nephew; a burgundy and green quilt for Plymouth House of Healing; a square-in-square quilt for Kristin Remole; and a quilt with outdoor scenes for another nephew. Whew!

november 11 meeting

We had a great meeting at Pris' home for this month's Piece Makers meeting: Shannon, Harriet, Pris, Flora, Miriam and Patricia were in attendance.

The meeting started with Patricia showing two quilts tops sent by Maurine that were made by her friend Marty. They are wonderful batik compositions—one will be finished by Flora for a girl YF quilt. The other will get paired with a back and be finished for a boy YF quilt.

Patricia showed a sample yukata quilt that she is uber-stitching by hand. She also talked about a master quilt she is planning to make in the coming year.

Flora shared a sixties-colored quilt that she finished for Plymouth House of Healing. She also raved about her previous weekend weaving workshop. Hosted at her home, a group of native weavers learned from the renowned Salish weaver Susan Pavel. The Friday and Saturday event completely energized and inspired Flora.

Pris showed us her progress on the bird/fish quilt she is making for a 13-year old niece. As she described the quilt, it is filled with unplanned perfection and imperfection.

Pris is cogitating about making a quilt for Emily's  (nee Hanson) husband who just got out of Iraq. A series of N-Sid-Sen t-shirts have been collected. Emily and her husband met at N-Sid-Sen at camp and got married there last summer. Plymouth people don't know many people in the military and we should honor them.

Miriam turned 87 on 11/11/11! The birthday girl brought a Christmas teddy-bear that she made with poinsettia and holly fabric. (We can use the bear as a giveaway at church or for an auction.) She's finished her YF quilt already—it's a perfectly wonderful jean quilt that was widely admired by all. Both Patricia and Shannon asked to be on Miriam's blue jean quilt receiver list. Miriam also brought us all gifts—gourmet soaps by Sierra Nevada Soap Company.

Shannon brought two huge piles of giveaway fabric leftover from a friend's garage sale. She has not been feeling well recently.

Harriet and Rob are just back from a trip to Europe where they visited a niece in Rome and took a cruise to the eastern Mediterranean. In her Big Bag, she packed:
