Maurine’s new home in Edmonds, with her front room transformed into a sewing studio, shines as a mecca for quilting. The early part of our evening was spent looking through bins of notions, patterns and books for things to adopt from her studio.

Maurine told how she and Ed had updated their home with all sorts of major renovations—hardwood floors, new bathrooms, new kitchen, new walk-in closet and more.

She showed us an adorable green and yellow quilt with double needle stitching she made as a class sample in 1988. Maurine just washed the quilt and will give it to June for a Plymouth baby.

Maurine also pulled out a quilt that included blocks made by various Plymouth Piece Makers. It was  a group project with everyone learning about machine applique. It might make a great YF quilt for a girl.

This traditional Hunter Star quilt top was made by Maurine in a class she took at APWQ.

Even though Maurine can only sew 10 minutes at a time, she’d love to get another Bernina that has a bigger bobbin, built-in walking foot, bigger throat and lots of little LED lights.

Flora has a new job! She is now with Washington State Ferries, helping maintain and service all 21 ferries in the fleet. Her show 'n tell was Maurine’s spectacular sewing room with its fancy fabric cupboard.

The pretty garden dress Miriam wore to Piece Makers was made from a pattern that came with her sewing machine.

Remember the green squares Miriam made many moons ago? That quilt is now finished, with sashing between the green squares.

To get ready for Fourth of July next year, Miriam whipped up a table topper
that is red white and blue.

Miriam is going to Norway to celebrate her cousin’s 95th birthday in September. (Didn’t she just get back from her 90th birthday?) To get ready for the trip, Miriam is making bags for the next generation of family members.

Harriet brought a hat that she made at the Plymouth All-Church Retreat.

Janet has her double wedding ring quilt on the Gammi so she couldn’t bring it. The deadline for that project is September 7. Janet has stitched three quilts for fees and has four quilts in her queue for Jeanne!

Patricia brought two quilt tops that she made with her yukata cottons. Her big quilt, Hope Survives, is off the wall and she plans to hand stitch it. This pictured top is called Wheels of Change.

Shannon is continuing to have fun with her twister template. She is keeping this current quilt for herself. The backing is from Dry Goods in Ballard.

Next time we meet, Maurine’s going to show us how to make fabric bowls!

june 13 meeting

Harriet and Rob’s log house glowed with warmth for the June meeting. Harriet provided the entire meal, serving chicken, a green salad with fresh peaches, a grain salad, and homemade breads. For dessert, guests enjoyed mango sorbet and cookies. Everything was yummy.

Show N’ Tell

Flora created a Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star quilt for a friend. She is also designing quilts and showed one that she plans to make for her guest room.

Shannon was playing with her Twister template again and created another design with her template.

Pris didn’t have any quilt projects to show so she modeled some of the fabric that Shannon brought to share.

Harriet had way too much fun at Island Quilter on Vashon Island, buying Kaffe Fassett fabric and some animal prints. She’s sure to produce some lovely quilts with it all.

Miriam finished up a cozy top that Shannon passed to her at our last meeting. Miriam seems to be the finisher lately. Her daughter made a quilt top for a wedding gift  but the wedding never did took place—so she passed the top to Miriam to finish.

Janet brought a quilt that she stitched on her long-arm for a client and one she stitched for Jeanne—the twelfth quilt she has quilted for Jeanne so far this year. Practice, practice, practice.

 The Piece Makers met at Flora’s home: Pris, Janet, Shannon, Miriam, Flora and Harriet.

It was a cool evening at Flora’s warm home with the fireplace, hot chocolate, and cookies and pie to set the mood.  Most of the meeting was spent accomplishing the mission of sewing labels on the finished YF’ers quilts. The quilts will be presented to the 10 seniors during the 11AM Plymouth service on June 2nd.  

Miriam presented a snuggly baby blanket, gown, and cap ensemble she made for Plymouth’s baby supply collection.

Janet displayed a small and incredibly intricately beaded and knitted necklace in the shape of a purse.

Harriet brought a pieced floral top that Janet graciously offered to help her quilt on her “Gammy”, her new long-arm quilting machine.

This month Piece Makers was hosted by Patricia who served herbal tea and gluten-free cookies.

The evening started with Shannon sharing all sorts of goodies that were no longer wanted at Bernina NW when the store moved. It was a wonderful assortment of unfinished projects, samples, notions and fabrics. Everything was scooped up, either by Piece Makers or for a QA giveaway table.

Shannon also showed us the start on her YF quilt.

Miriam has finished her YF quilt and now more accessories to go with it. Elena will have a matching pillow and book bag, and a shopping bag for her mother.

From her daughter, Miriam received narrow strips of fabric sewn together. These she made into shopping bags with some extra olive green fabric. Some lucky Piece Makers took home these arty bags.

Miriam’s green quilt is coming along. She’ll need 63 quilt blocks to finish it and so far she has 3!. 

Pris makes story quilts—ones that relate to the recipients and their experiences. This year she is making Anna’s quilt. Pris and Stan have watched Anna grow up at camp. The dynamic high school senior goes to Garfield and is a rabid Bulldog. She sings and likes pigs. So Pris is making an ambitious quilt of 48 blocks topped with hand-appliqued triangles. Right now Pris has 21 blocks completed. Go Pris!

Janet brought a remarkable vintage Cathedral Windows quilt made by Jenne Neptune’s mother. Shannon is the lucky recipient of the quilt while Patricia got a matching pillowcase. Then Janet showed us the YF quilt she finished stitching beautifully on her long arm.

Harriet brought a luscious quilt that she made for another niece who loves horses and playing soccer. It’s a stitch-as-you-go production that has diamond blocks and diagonal sashing with fancy stitching on the navy blue connectors.

Patricia has just finished up StashFest. It was a great success—raising just under $20,000 for La Conner Quilt and Textile Museum. She is working on a quilt commission entitled Family Guy and nicknamed by her: Three Generations of Clean Laundry. Patricia displayed her class sample, Wabi Sabi, that she uses for her Counterintuitive Piecing class. Then she proudly showed off her new Rowenta Steam System.

Flora told us about her week volunteering for the QA Quilt Show in March. She finished up an out-of-this-world quilt titled m111 with a labyrinth in the center and sparkly overlay fabrics. This is a beginning of a series she is developing of imaginary Messier Deep Sky Objects quilts.

Flora has started a new business that incorporates all of her talents. Not only long-arm quilting and vintage jewelry restoration, Flora will be helping people create organization and harmony in their homes and lives.
